  the room is spinning
my new job is keeping me hella busy. i worked late yesterday and today. looks like the trend will continue through the week.

i didn't even post on how much i enjoyed The Darkness on Sunday. well, there you have it. good times! it has been a long while since i've been to a concert where the whole crowd was having fun and was really into the whole vibe of the show. usually, people stand around, sipping their drinks, acting too kool for skool or pushing and punching, acting like jackasses.

for those who care, i like the new VonBondies album. the key is not to over analyze it. they're not the White Stipes, but put it up against most other current albums and its superior in most ways. favorite lyric: "not that social, just a good drinker"

  the big news!
i've accepted an offer for a full-time position in WDRQ's promotions department as a promotions coordinator. i will be working under their director of marketing and promotions, Julie Law and along side current promotions/events coordinator, Matt Shepherd.

working at WDVD has been a good time and i've gained lots of industry experience. i still have big hopes that 96.3 is going to be successful. the staff is good people. they work hard and deserve their coming success. its been a rough ride and we have seen a lot of talented people leave. hopefully that trend will end with me.

in the meantime, i will be working to become familiar with my new job while simultaneously training my replacement.

  Reminisce on memory bliss
i've been on this unusual classic rock kick lately and i don't know why. i've always enjoyed this music mostly because its all i listened to on my parents car radio when i was growing up. i raided my dad's record collection when my parents were in Mexico. his lps are old and scratchy, but that just makes them so much kooler. choice picks include . . . otis redding & the jimi hendrix experience - "Historic Performance Recorded at the Monterey International Pop Festival", Yes - "Fragile", Jeff Beck - "Truth", and Queen - "A Night at the Opera". Still untapped . . . Led Zeppelin - "BBC Broadcasts Live Recordings", Neil Young - "Harvest", Jethro Tull - "Aqualung", Grand Funk Railroad - "Live Album", and Eric Clapton - "Slowhand". I also found a small stack of Black Sabbath albums which upon my parents return I was informed belong to my mother. Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy! . . . rock on mom!

  stab stab die
stabstabdielogo
i saw these guys open for today i wait thursday night at alvin's. next time they play live, i'm going to gather as many people i can to go see them. they deserve and need the support. they're a 3 piece electronic/trip hop/instrumental band with live bass and drums plus sequenced drum loops and samples. they have one ep produced and will be available soon. it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine! koolest thing to mention is that the album was developed between the scott (producer/dj) and bart (bass) by sending pieces of tracks back-n-forth over email, much like the postal service CD "give up". this being necessary since bart lives here in detroit and scott lives in ottawa. bill (live drums) also lives in detroit and just began playing with with the duo for their recent live shows with today i wait.

  topic of the day
aren't the most interesting topics complete nonsense? such as, the wonderful soda pop discussion currently happening at amber's blog.

how anal are you? do you rotate or color code you clothing? do all your canned foods label face forward?

personally, i am pretty particular about certain things. although i do my best to hide how ridiculous some of my habits *ahem* preferences can be.

i starting having an opinion early in life. the earliest example is when i was 3 years old. my dad and his friend spent the better part of a weekend paneling the interior wall in our very small bathroom. upon completion, i briefly examined their work, and proclaimed "i just can't like that, dad!" next time my parents entered their newly paneled bathroom, it was also newly decorated in the entire rainbow of crayola colors.

  f%$* the police, f%$* the police, f%$*'em!
i was issued a traffic ticket on sunday. liz and i were coming back from target in troy, but we needed to stop at holiday market for some of the tasty italian bread. i turn right on to main st. from the 696 service drive not noticing the "no turn on red" sign. the officer was traveling south on main then turned around and pulled me over as i entered the holiday market parking lot. not only was given a citation for turning right on red, but i was also given a warning for not changing my address on my license. of course, i probably would have received a second citation for the address change, but i fibbed and told him i only moved to ferndale a month back.

looking over the ticket with its list of violations and corresponding fines, i was really shocked. if i'm reading the ticket correctly its a $115 fine and 3 points. that is simply ridiculous. i wasn't even speeding!

anyway, here is my true dilemma. how do i plead guilty to the charge without getting the points? the $115 will be hard on the pocket book, but i can find a way to manage the one time fee. what i can not afford is the increase in my monthly car insurance. my driving record is clean. you would think the officer would give me a break since i'm new to the area *wink*, *wink*

taking a step backwards. the reason i haven't changed my driver's license address is because i'm still taking advantage of my parents group auto insurance. having an out on the pending points to my record is dire because not only will my monthly payment go up, but also the monthly payments of the entire group. (i.e., my parents and sisters)

if you have been in a similar situation and have any advice, i am very open to any suggestions.

  more blowout!
well, i didn't make the even half the shows i set out to last night . . . but that is okay . . . Leaving Rouge more than made up for missing American Mars and the Gore Gore Girls . . . this band has their s(*&t together . . . not to mention that the keyboardist is super cute . . . this was my first show in the enlarged back room at Small's . . . but it sounded great . . . and Leaving Rouge took full advantage . . . good lyrics, great intrumentation, stage presence and loads of passion . . . although the crowd thinned toward the end of the set . . . i have to believe that those who stood as the lights came up were in some way moved . . . make no mistake, this is no "local band" . . . i'm no good as a salesman . . . find out for yourself . . . Leaving Rouge will play at Alvin's tonight . . . or check their site for upcoming shows . . .

  lovin' it!
so far the Hamtramck Blowout has been worth more that the measly $15 admission fee . . . there are so many great local bands in the Detroit area . . . the pre party: The Alphabet, Midwest Product, Saturday Looks Good to Me, the Avatars, & Esquire . . . all worth your time . . . but in the future i will pass on Pas/Cal & King Gordy . . . last night i had to make it a short night due to my early morning at work . . . but i did get to see The Prime Ministers at Paychecks Lounge . . . good preformance but bigmatt put in best stating that they need a lead guitar player . . . Rock McClain we miss you . . . check out the pix on my photo blog . . . tonight: Gore Gore Girls, The Civilians, American Mars, & Leaving Rouge . . . more pix to come soon!

  good news!
my site finally started showing up on the google search engine . . . if you type "ronrunsthecity" it looks good with a nice heading and description . . . but if you seperate the words and search for "ron runs the city" it sux . . . like i said . . . i have all types of tweaking to do . . .
  living in oblivion
i've been really slacking . . . i haven't blogged . . . i haven't worked on my site which is in dire need of tweaking . . . actually, i don't know what i have done in the past 1/2 week . . .

i need to find a second job . . . something that won't interfere with my current schedule, where i have very little responsibility, and where i get paid a decent hourly wage for doing very little . . . i'm optimistic, really! . . .

pic this!
